Representatives of Athletics Interest

FAMILY LETTER
Dear DSU Family,
Sports seasons are upon us, and we are looking forward to another exciting year! The Delta State Athletics Department is grateful to have outstanding fan support for all our programs. We would not be able to meet our goal of athletic excellence without you.

Our commitment to adhere to NCAA rules and regulations is an important component of excellence at Delta State as well. As a result, we want to take a moment to remind you that the provision of extra benefits and/or recruiting inducements to current or prospective student-athletes, their families, or their friends is a violation of NCAA rules. Extra benefits are special arrangements or gifts provided to a student-athlete or his/her family or friends while recruiting inducements are special arrangements or gifts provided to a prospective student-athlete or his/her family or friends.

Examples of these include but are not limited to:
  • Cash, gifts, clothing, etc.
  • Complimentary or reduced cost meals
  • Use of a car or free or reduced cost lodging (e.g. hotel room, condo access, etc.)
  • Tickets to games or access to premium seating areas
  • Transportation to or from home or away games
  • Academic assistance or tutoring services
  • Special arrangements including reserving hotel rooms that are not available to the general public

Additionally, please remember that fans and boosters are not supposed to become involved in the recruiting process - this includes having contact with prospective student-athletes including but not limited to times when prospects are on-campus experiencing our exciting game-day experiences.

The receipt of extra benefits or recruiting inducements will jeopardize the eligibility of involved current or prospective student-athletes and could lead to penalties for the University or its sport programs. Thank you for your assistance in ensuring that Delta State is compliant with NCAA rules and regulations. If you have specific questions, please contact our Compliance Office at (662) 846-4300 or dgeorge@deltastate.edu.
