Aaron Newcomb is in his first season as a graduate assistant coach on the Delta State Baseball staff and will work with the Statesmen pitchers.
Newcomb returns to the Delta after serving as an assistant coach for the Centralia Heat Travel team and Head Coach of the Pinckneyville High School Junior Varsity team (2015).
Before joining the coaching ranks, the Centralia, Ill., native was a 19th round draft choice of the Los Angeles Angels in 2012. He was a starter and reliever for Rookie Class Orem Owlz and for the Class A Burlington Bees during his career. Newcomb signed with Gateway grizzlies of the Frontier League before finishing with Washington Wild Things of the Frontier League in 2014.
Pitched two seasons for the Statesmen, recording an 18-11 record with a 3.67 ERA, and 172 strikeouts in 193.2 innings pitched. He posted an 11-4 mark with 95 strikeouts against 24 walks in 108.1 innings his senior year. In 2012, he helped the Statesmen win the Gulf South Conference and NCAA Division II South Region championships and a berth in the 2012 NCAA Division II World Series.
Before signing with the Statesmen, Newcomb played two seasons for Dennis Conley at Olney Central College in Olney, Ill. The righty went 9-3 with a 4.20 ERA while allowing 51 runs on 79 hits with 34 walks and 58 strikeouts in a single-season record 89.2 innings pitched in 2011. Newcomb earned Academic All-American honors as a sophomore.
Newcomb attended Centralia High School in Centralia, Ill, from 2004-2008, earning All-Conference honors in 2008.
Newcomb earned a and B.S. degree in graphic arts from Delta State in 2012 and is currently working towards his Master’s in business.
