Slater Lott, who joined the Delta State University baseball staff as an assistant coach in August 2018, is entering his second season on the staff charged with coaching hitters and infielders.
In the first season under Lott, the Statesmen tied with West Florida atop the Gulf South Conference with a .267 fielding percentage and narrowly missed tying the DSU single season field percentage mark of .268. Statesmen ranked first in the GSC in runs scored (368), and second in home runs (42) and triples (13). The Statesmen finished fourth in the batting average (.285) and hits (522) and ranked sixth in doubles (87).
Sophomore second baseman Jake Barlow was named First-Team All-GSC, D2CCA Second-Team All-American, NCBWA Third-Team All-American and ABCA, D2CCA, NCBWA First-Team All-South Region. Barlow led the GSC in triples (5) and and finished second in home runs (11).Â

The Meridian, Miss., native comes to Delta State after serving as an assistant coach at Meridian Community College from 2014-18. Lott coached the catchers and outfielders and also served as hitting coach. The Eagles led the MACJC and ranked second in the NJCAA with a .368 team batting average while also ranking 10th in runs scored (490) and 12th in hits (580) in the NJCAA.

In, 2018, MCC posted a 39-13 overall record and a 21-7 conference while finishing as the Region 23 runner-up. The Eagles capped the 2018 year with three players drafted for a total of seven players, who were drafted or signed a free agent contract during his tenure.

Prior to his arrival at MCC, Lott was an assistant on the East Central Community College baseball staff in 2013, where he had four players who were drafted or signed free agent.

Slater also head coach of the Mississippi Rays 18U summer team from 2018-16 during his time with MCC.

Slater received his associate's degree in 2014 from Meridian Community College and his bachelor’s degree in history education from Mississippi State University in 2016.
