2019 GSC & NCBWA South Region Player of the Week (2.19)

2019 (SENIOR): 
Helped the Statesmen to a 42-14 overall record and a 20-9 mark in the Gulf South Conference while winning the school's 15th GSC title and finishing runner-up in the NCAA South Region...led the Statesmen and ranked fifth in the GSC with 70 hits...became the first Statesmen to steal more than 12 bases in a season 2014, stealing 15 bases (T5th GSC)...hit by a pitch 12 times (7th GSC)...ranked third in the GSC with 219 at bats...hit .320 with nine doubles, one triple and a home run and 28 RBIs...led the Statesmen with 22 multi-hit games, including five games with three hits...had multiple RBIs in six games with two four RBI outings...hit .404 (10-for-47) with four doubles, five RBIs, 10 runs scored five steals (5 attempts) in 11 post season games...hits .464  (13-for-28) with four doubles, four RBI, six runs scored and two steals (2 attempts) in the GSC Tournament...had two three hit games  in the GSC Tournament, going 3-for-5 with two RBI against Montevallo (5.5) and 3-for-4 with two doubles and two runs scored against Valdosta State (5.7)...went 3-for-4 with four RBI in the regular season against Montevallo (2.16)...belted a grand slam against Henderson State (4.2)...had three hits, one RBI and a run scored against Valdosta State (5.17) in the NCAA South 2 Regional.

2018 (JUNIOR): Helped the Statesmen to a 42-11 record and the Gulf South Conference regular-season title with a 23-5 mark...played in 21 games and started six at third base...hit .447 (17-for-38), with three doubles, two home runs, 12 RBIs and 14 runs scored...slugged .684 and had a .462 on base percentage with one steal in two attempts...sent 2-for-4 with three RBIs at Union University (4.8)...went 2-for-3 with two doubles, an RBI and three runs scored against Ouachita Baptist (3.24)...delivered a two-RBI pinch-hit single against Mississippi College (5.17) in the NCAA South Regional...had four multi-hit and four multi-RBI games.

JUCO: Played two seasons for Coach Mark Carson at Northwest Mississippi Community College...Second-Team All-MACJC in 2016 and was named First-Team All-MACJC and NJCAA All-Region in 2017...played in 96 career games with 96 starts hitting .397 with 26 doubles, four triples and seven home runs during his two-season with the Rangers...also stole 51-of-58 career bases and drove in 58 runs...hit a team-high .367 with 12 doubles and two triples and scored 33 runs and drove in 24 more as a freshman...had a team-best 19 multi-hit games...stole a team-high 23-of-26 bases...had a team-best .466 on-base percentage...plunked a team-high 12 times...had seven sacrifice hits...fielded .911 in 180 chances...batted .423 (77-of-182) in 47 starts, tallying 14 doubles, two triples and seven home runs as a sophomore...stole 28-of-32  bases with 34 RBIs...also played two seasons of football for the Rangers, recording 67 tackles, five TFL, three sacks and two fumble recoveries.

PREP: Played baseball for Coach Chris McMinn, winning four state championships at Magnolia Heights...named one of The Clarion-Ledger’s Top 40 baseball seniors...also played football for head coach Cliff Young...helped the Chiefs to an 8-3 finish and a playoff appearance his senior year...also part of two MAIS state champion runner-up finishes in 2012 and 2013...passed for eight touchdowns and rushed for over 2,000 yards and 28 rushing touchdowns as a senior...named First-Team All-State and All-District as a senior, while collecting MAIS Offensive MVP and team Offensive MVP awards...played in the 2014 MAIS All-Star Game and was named a Clarion-Ledger Top Performer for three weeks during the season...as a junior, earned First-Team All-District as a running back/defensive back and was named a Second-Team All-State at defensive back.

PERSONAL: David Herrington...son of Dewayne and Jere Herrington...older brother, Dex, played football and baseball for NWCC from 2010-12 and later played baseball at Delta State...majoring in business.
