CAREER:
Played in 81 games and 10 starts in the outfield during his two seasons with the Statesmen...finished his career with a .255 average and had one double, two home runs and 11 RBIs...collected 14 hits in 55 at bats and scored 15 runs... helped the Statesmen capture two GSC Regular Season titles (2017, 2018), the GSC Tournament Championships (2017), the 2017 NCAA Division II South Region Championship and advanced to the 2017 NCAA Division II World Series.

2018 (Senior): Helped the Statesmen to a 42-11 overall record and the Gulf South Conference regular-season title with a 23-5 mark...saw action in 43 games with 10 starts between left and center field...hit .244 (11-for-45) with two homes, 10 RBIs, 12 runs scored..had two steals in three attempts on the base paths...belted a pinch hit grand slam against Southern Arkansas (3.27) and had a two-run home run against Southern Indiana (2.17)...went 2-for-5 with two runs scored and an RBI against Valdosta State (2.24).

2017 (Junior): Helped the Statesmen finish 45-13 and 25-8 in the GSC, winning their 14th GSC title and 12th NCAA Regional Championship while their making 12th NCAA Division II College World Series appearance…saw action in 39 games as a reserve outfielder…hit. 300 with a double, three runs scored and one RBI…delivered a pinch-hit RBI double to break a 4-4 tie and scored the go ahead run in the 10th inning against the West Alabama (5.22) in the NCAA Division II South Region title game.

JUCO: Played two seasons at Northwest Mississippi Community College…played 47 games with 45 starts in center field as a sophomore…hit .278 (40-of-144) with eight doubles, three triples, one home run and 22 RBIs…also scored 39 runs and stole 12-of-18 bases…played and started in 47 of 48 games in center field as freshman...hit .259 with nine doubles and three triples...had eight multi-hit and five multi-RBI games...had a season-high three hits (twice)...drove in 20 runs and scored 32 more...drew a team-high 39 walks (second in a single-season)...had five sacrifices...stole 20-of-27 bases...had a .416 on-base percentage...fielded .954 in 109 chances.

PREP: Played for Coach Chris McMinn at Magnolia Heights…won three straight MAIS AAA Division II State Championships (2012, 2013, 2014)...the Chiefs finished a perfect 37-0 in 2013, becoming just the third team in the state of Mississippi to go undefeated... finished No. 8 in the country in the final MaXPreps Xcellent 50 National Baseball Rankings…a three-time All-MAIS selection...was named one of the Top 20 Underclassmen to Watch in Mississippi by The Clarion-Ledger...named MAIS MVP, an MAIS Fab 15 Senior and Clarion-Ledger Second-Team All-State as a senior…hit .472 as a senior with six doubles, six triples, two home runs and 28 RBIs and added 35 stolen bases...as a junior, hit .303 with nine doubles, three triples, a home run, 15 RBIs and 27 runs scored…he also stole 28 bases and had a .490 on-base percentage...also recruited by five other MACJC teams before choosing Northwest.

Personal: Michael Jamell Newson…son of Michael and Monika Newson…has two brothers, Justin Brooks and Latalo Newson…majoring in marketing.
