Nick Franey, who will assist with the offensive line and tight ends, enters his first season as a graduate assistant coach on the DSU staff.
Franey comes to the Delta from McKendree University in Lebanon, Ill., where he coached the running backs and was the video coordinator in 2017-18. Aside from his coaching duties, he was also responsible for recruiting in Southern Illinois, Missouri and Arkansas.
McKendree posted a 7-4 record and finished second in the Great Lakes Valley Conference in 2017. The Bearcats offense averaged 30.9 points and 359 yards per game while Shayeen Edwards rushed for 1035 yards and 10 touchdowns.
In the summer of 2016, Franey was a staff intern at Lindenwood University in St. Charles, Missouri. His duties included coordinating the Saint Louis Showcase camp that featured 500 high school campers and 100 college coaches from every level and football’s annual Youth Camp.
Before coaching, Franey served as an athletic intern at his Alma Mater Central Methodist in Fayette, Mo., where he produced multimedia videos and helped to improve fans game day experience.
Franey graduated from Central Methodist May of 2017 with a Bachelor of Science in sports management. Franey was a two-year starter and scholar-athlete in 2015 and 2016 for the Eagles football team, carrying. a 3.6 GPA.
The St. Louis, Mo., native is working towards his Master’s degree in sports management from Delta State.
