2015 (SENIOR): Played in all games at receiver for the Statesmen...Caught 38 passes for 356 yards and three touchdowns...Averaged 9.4 yards per reception and 32.4 yards per game...Ran 10 times for 35 yards...Career-high six receptions for 93 yards against Albany State...Scored a touchdown in DSU's last three games...Caught five passes for 36 yards and a score at Mississippi College...Ranked 11th in GSC in receptions...Returned 11 punts for 30 yards.
PRIOR TO DSU: Powell played 28 games in three years at UAB as both a defensive back and wide receiver under coach Bill Clark...Compiled 224 receiving yards and a pair of touchdowns and had 18 tackles as a defensive back
ALABAMA-BIRMINGHAM (2011-2014): Came to UAB as a wide receiver but was moved to defensive backfield at start of 2012 spring practice ... was moved back to receiver for 2013 season ... sat out 2011 season as a true freshman ... got on the field for the first time in college in 2012 and showed signs of promise for the future ... expected to compete for significant time at wide receiver position this fall.
2013: Saw action in 11 games and made four starts during the season ... started contests against Northwestern State, Florida Atlantic, FIU and UTSA ... ranked fifth on the team in receptions with 13 catches for 174 yards and a pair of touchdowns ... had touchdown catches vs. Vanderbilt and Rice ...best game statistically was against SEC foe Vanderbilt when he registered five catches for 56 yards with a 29-yard touchdown reception, his longest of the season ... had a pair of catches for 47 yards (vs. Southern Miss), two catches for 35 yards (vs. FIU) and two for 27 yards (vs. Rice).
2012: Saw action in seven games and started two (East Carolina and Tulane) ... put up good numbers in limited playing time with 18 total tackles, including 10 solo hits ... had three pass breakups ... recorded four tackles in games vs. Houston, East Carolina and Tulane ... also had three stops in season opener against Troy ... pass breakups came against Tulsa, East Carolina and UCF.
2011: Did not see any action and was redshirted.
HIGH SCHOOL: Helped his team finish with an 8-4 record and rank first in the 6A Region 2 in total offensive rankings ... a three-year starter at quarterback ... passed for 1, 780 yards and ran for another 756 yards in 2008 ... as a senior, he passed for 364 yards and 4 touchdowns ... he also ran for 7 additional touchdowns ... led his team to the first round of the playoffs in 2008, 2009, and 2010 ... runs a 4.46 ... team finished third place in division with a 5-2 divisional record ... named Optimist Player of the Week three times in the 2010 season ...
