Andy Robertson enters his ninth season as head coach with the Delta State University men's soccer team.
After serving one year as interim head coach, Robertson was named head coach on Nov. 6, 2014 by director of athletics Ronnie Mayers. Robertson owns a United States Soccer 'B' License, and also has his Scottish Football (SFA) goalkeeping license and Talent Identification License.
The 2021 fall season saw Remi Emeriau earn an All-Academic team nod after posting a 3.94 GPA and leading the Statesmen in goials (5) and points (15).
The Statesmen made it to the quarterfinals of the Gulf South Conference tournaments in an abbreviated 2021 spring season, due to COVID-19, but found success defeating the Shorter Hawks in the opening round of the tournament.
Robertson's teams have also continually found success in the classroom, as his 2018 and 2021 squads earned Delta State's Athletic Director Award for having the highest team GPA. His 2016 team also took home Delta State's Champs Cup for their community service work throughout that season.
Robertson spent one year as a graduate assistant coach for Nick Glaser. In his first season with DSU, he assisted former coach Matt Watts, helping guide the Statesmen to their first Gulf South Conference Tournament in school history, advancing to the conference final.
In Robertson's first season, the Statesmen finished the year 7-10 with a sixth place finish in the Gulf South Conference standings. DSU's 4-5 mark put the Statesmen into the GSC Tournament for just the second time in school history. The season saw seven losses decided by a single goal, including three in overtime.,
Under Robertson's tutelage, the Statesmen improved in nearly every offensive and defensive category from the 2013 season year. DSU allowed just 26 goals (1.53 per game) while scoring 22 (1.29). In 2013, Delta State surrendered 43 goals (2.39 per game) in a 3-14-1 season.
Following the 2014 campaign, Amine Rahmani (First Team) and Pedro Verissimo (Second Team) became the first All-GSC selections under Robertson.
His second season as head coach, Robertson went 6-10 during the 2015 campaign. For the first time in school history, the Statesmen topped GSC perennial power West Florida in back-to-back seasons. Rahmani was named Second Team All-GSC, while becoming the first player in program history to be named All-GSC on more than two occasions.
Following his third season at the helm, the Statesmen went 5-11-1 for the 2016 season. Andrew Aur was named Second Team All-GSC.
The Dumbarton, Scotland native played four seasons for Ty Brewer at Northwood (Fla.) University. Robertson was a four-year starting goalkeeper for the Seahawks, a perennial power in The Sun Conference (NAIA).
Robertson, a two-time first team All-Conference selection and four-time Defensive Player of the Week, logged over 5174 minutes in 56 games. He recorded a save percentage of .819,,and holds the school record for shutouts with 21 from 55 games.
He maintained a .800 goals against average for his career and helped the Seahawks to a Sun Conference Regular Season and Conference Championship and an NAIA National Tournament berth in 2008. Robertson finished with a career record of 39-15-2.
Robertson was born in Bellshill, Scotland, and is the son of Hamish and Kathleen Robertson. He received his bachelor's degree in Entertainment & Sport Promotion Management from Northwood in 2011. He earned a Master of Science in Sports Management from Delta State in 2014.
