Ryan Zimmerman enters his first year as a Broadcasting and Media Relations Graduate Assistant and fill-in radio voice of Delta State Statesmen and Lady Statesmen athletics.
As a member of the Athletic Communications Department, Zimmerman works as a Sports Information Director for men’s soccer, women’s soccer, and cheerleading, as well as assists the staff’s broadcasting and media relations efforts.
Zimmerman brings substantial broadcasting experience to the Delta State athletic department. Prior to arriving in Cleveland, he was the Assistant Director of Sports Programming at 90.7 FM KALX Berkeley, the University of California, Berkeley’s official and listener supported radio station. There, he was one of the main voices for Golden Bears football, men’s basketball, women’s basketball, baseball, and hockey. He also hosted a radio show called Bear Talk, a weekly program centered around Cal and Bay Area sports.
In addition, Zimmerman spent three seasons broadcasting summer collegiate baseball in various leagues across the country. In 2020, before the cancellation of the Cape Cod Baseball League due to COVID-19, he was hired as a play-by-play broadcasting intern for the Cotuit Kettleers. Throughout that summer, he co-hosted and produced the team’s podcast, wrote feature articles, and created graphics and short videos for social media.
In 2019, Zimmerman served as the Director of Broadcasting and Media for the Sanford Mainers of the New England Collegiate Baseball League (NECBL), where he was selected by his broadcasting peers and league general managers to announce the 2019 All-Star Game. The year before, he worked for the Crestwood Panthers of the Midwest Collegiate League as their Play-by-Play Broadcaster and Director of Communications.
Most recently, Zimmerman freelanced at Purdue University Northwest, another Division II school in Hammond, Ind. There, he called women’s volleyball, men’s soccer, and softball.
A Chicago native, Zimmerman is a 2020 graduate of the University of California, Berkeley with Bachelor of Arts degrees in Applied Mathematics and Spanish. At Delta State he is pursuing a Master of Business Administration with a concentration in Information Systems.
