Antonio Nunez Alvarez

Antonio Nunez Alvarez begins his first season with the Statesmen and Lady Statesmen swimming and diving teams as a graduate assistant.

Originally from Oviedo, Spain, Alvarez swam collegiately at both Florida Southern College in Lakeland, Fla. and University of Bridgeport in Bridgeport, Conn. 

He was named Second Team All Sunshine State Conference in 2017, and was also a 3-time NCAA Division II All-American in 2017. He was also an All-SSC selection in 2016 while at Florida Southern and was a team captain in 2016 and 2017 for the Mocs.

Alvarez was also a two-time NCAA Division II All-American in 2015 and was a 2014 NCAA Division II runner-up in his time at Bridgeport. He still holds the 200-yard butterfly, 400-yard individual medley, and 200-yard freestyle relay school records.
As a coach, Alvarez served as a volunteer assistant for the Lakeland Area Swim Team and was also the age-group swim coach at Gulliver Swim Club in Miami, Fla., where he coached numerous finalists at the FGC Junior Olympics during the summer of 2019. He also helped three swimmers qualify for the 2019 FGC vs FL All-Star Dual Meet, and helped one swimmer qualify for the Southern Zone meet as a part of the FGC.
For the past couple of seasons, Alvarez has served as the age group coach at Club Natacion Ciudad de Oviedo in Oviedo, Spain.
Alvarez graduated with a Bachelors of Science in Exercise Science from Florida Southern College. He is currently pursuing a Masters of Science in Exercise Science at Delta State.
