Carah Nunez

Cara Nunez joins the Delta State University Softball staff for her first season as a graduate assistant coach. 

Nunez played two-seasons for the Lady Statesmen after transferring to DSU from San Jacinto Junior College in San Jacinto, Texas.  The Tomball, Texas, native played in 97 games, 94 starts,at first base finishing with a .275 average, eight home runs, six doubles and 44 RBIs. As a senior, Nunez ranked third in the Gulf South Conference in putouts, eighth in fielding double plays and eighth in hit by pitch while leading DSU in hit by pitch (8), sac flies (2), fielding percentage (.984), putouts (350) and fielding double plays (8).

Nunez graduated with her degree in exercise science in 2017 and working toward a master's degree in sports management at Delta State.

2017 (SENIOR): Played and started in all 46 games ... Ranked third in the GSC in putouts, eighth in fielding double plays and eighth in hit by pitch ... Finished with a .274 batting average with 34 hits, two doubles, two home runs and 19 RBIs ... Team leader in hit by pitch (eight), sac flies (two), fielding percentage (.984), putouts (350) and fielding double plays (eight) ... Second in walks (12) and fourth in on base percentage (.370).   

2016 (JUNIOR): Appeared in 51 games with 48 starts ... Finished with a .276 average with four doubles, six home runs and 25 RBIs ... Tied for second on the team in home runs ... Led the team with eight hit by pitch and ranked third with 17 walks ... .404 on base percentage was fourth on the team ... Had eight multi-hit contests ... Collected three hits twice, including a 3-for-4 effort with four RBIs in a victory over Alabama Huntsville at the GSC Tournament (4.28).

SAN JACINTO COLLEGE:  Played two seasons for the Coyotes under the direction of head coach Kelly Saenz ... Finished her sophomore season with a .424 batting average with 13 doubles, one triple and five homre runs ... Led Region 14 with 56 RBIs ... Named a 2015 NJCAA Division I Softball Marucci Elite Hitter for having the highest batting average in each her district (Region 14) ....  Named First-Team All-Region and All-South Conference ... Selected to the NJCAA All-Star which played in the prestigious Canadian Open Fastpitch International Competition ... Helped her team finish the season with a 34-25 record ... Named Second Team All-Conference and All-Region after batting .378 with 17 doubles, one homerun and 40 RBIs in 171 at bats ... Helped lead team to its second trip to the NJCAA Tournament in school history.

HIGH SCHOOL: Prepped at Saint Pius X High School in Houston, Texas under the direction of head coach Nellie Kelly ... Named TAPPS 5A Honorable Mention All-District as a freshman ... Named TAPPS 5A All-District First Team as a junior and senior ... Helped team to a TAPPS 5A runner-up finish as a junior, where she was named to the All-Tournament Team ... Named TAPPS 5A First Team All-State following her junior and senior seasons .... Named Most Dedicated Player as a Sophomore, most improved as a junior and Co-Captain as a Senior.
