Taylor Johnson

Taylor Johnson joins the Delta State University Softball staff for her first season as a graduate assistant coach. 

Johnson. who will assist with coaching the pitching staff, capped off her Delta State career by winning the 2018 Charles S. Kerg Top Female Student Athlete ward. The Long Beach, Miss., native finished her four-year career with a 36-33 record along with  3.71 career ERA, save and 185 strikeouts. 

Johnson graduated from Delta State in 2018 with her degree in accounting and is working towards her MBA.

2018 Charles S. Kerg Award Winner

2018 (SENIOR):
Appeared in 30 games with 23 starts ... Led the team with 10 wins, 119 innings and three shutouts ... Tied for second in the GSC in shutouts and ranked in the top 20 in the league in ERA (3.24) and innings ... One of just 12 pitchers in the league that had opponents hit less than .290 in over 100 innings ... Allowed just two hits in a complete game shutout of Valdosta State (2.25) ... Went 23 innings without allowing an earned run ... Earned the prestigious Charles S. Kerg award, which is given to the best all-around student-athlete at DSU. 

2017 (JUNIOR): Appeared in 17 games with eight starts ... Posted a 4-5 record with a 3.89 ERA in 63 innings ...Tossed a career-high 8.2 innings versus Valdosta State (4.24) ... Recorded her first career save against Union (3.4) ... Struck out a career high eight batters against Tuskegee (2.4) ... Third on the team in strikeouts (25). 

2016 (SOPHOMORE):
Appeared in a team best 31 games with 20 starts ... Posted a 13-9 record with a 3.34 ERA in a team high 138.1 innings ... Led the Lady Statesmen with nine victories in GSC contests ... Tied for the team lead with 40 strikeouts ... Led the GSC in walks allowed (12) Tossed a team high 12 complete games ... Earned first career shutout and allowed just one hit in an 8-0 (5) victory over Alabama Huntsville (3.19) ... Allowed two earned runs or less in eight starts.

2015 (FRESHMAN): Appeared in 21 games with 15 starts…Posted a 9-6 record with a 4.76 ERA in 89.2 innings … Tossed eight complete games …Struck out 25 batters.

HIGH SCHOOL: Prepped at Long Beach High School under coach Scott Zink … Also played volleyball … Received 2014 LBHS MVP … Member of the 2014 Sun Herald All-Star team, 2013 Gulf Coast Future All-Star team, and 2014 Gulf Coast Senior All-Star team … Named a Mississippi Scholar and graduated with high honors.
