Britnee Smith enters her first season as head coach of the Lady Statesmen cross country program.

"We welcome Britnee to our Delta State Athletics family," said DSU Mike Kinnison. "We are looking forward to having her as part of our staff and are looking forward to her leadership for our Lady Statesmen cross country program.

"Delta State has always held a special place in my heart," said Smith. "The interactions and relationships we build with students as we watch them grow and mold into professionals is something I am excited to continue to help do as cross country coach."

Smith, a 2010 graduate of Delta State University with a Bachelor of Science in Education, earned her Masters of Science in Human Performance and Recreation in 2012 from the University of the Southern Mississippi.

An instructor in Delta State's Health, Physical Education, and Recreation division (HPER), Smith brings plenty of familiarity with the realm of athletics. She has served as the head fast pitch and softball coach at Seminary High School, was the assistant softball coach at Hattiesburg High School, and was a middle school volleyball coach for the Hattiesburg Public School District as well.

In addition to her athletic experience, Smith has earned recognition on the academic side in her time as an instructor. Smith serves as Delta State's Health, Physical Education, and Recreation BSE Coordinator, and is the co-chair of the HPER Majors Club on campus.

Smith also serves as a member, and the president-elect for 2021, of the Mississippi Association for Health, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance. MAHPERD is a professional organization of Mississippi educators, administrators, coaches, and young professionals involved in all aspects of health, physical education, recreation, and dance.

Smith also recently completed her Educational Specialist degree in Administration and Supervision in Delta State's division of Teacher Education, Leadership, and Research.

"I'm excited to bring my love and passion to the athletics side with DSU's women's cross country program," Smith remarked. "I'm looking forward to the moments of teaching and life lessons that we take from collegiate athletics. We're all better for those experiences, and our teams will work hard every day to compete on the highest level possible."
