CLEVELAND – After suffering their first conference loss of the season on Saturday, the Delta State Statesmen (13-4, 4-1 GSC) look to rebound against a pair of West Division opponents this week. The Statesmen host Harding (8-9, 1-4 GSC) on Thursday, Jan. 28 for an 8 p.m. tipoff at Sillers Coliseum and then hit the road for a Saturday, Jan. 30 contest against Henderson State (7-11, 0-5 GSC). Tipoff from Arkadelphia, Ark. is scheduled for 4 p.m.

CLEVELAND - Coach Jason Conner and the Statesmen (13-4, 4-1 GSC) of Delta State University were ranked No. 5 in the first NCAA South Region Poll, as released by the NCAA on Wednesday.  The Statesmen, who have a 10-3 record versus NCAA Division II opponents, went 1-1 last week with an 83-59 victory over Southern Arkansas and a hard-fought 88-77 loss at No. 1 Arkansas Tech.

CLEVELAND – Delta State University basketball fans have become accustomed to seeing the game played at the highest levels of NCAA Division II. Names like Scott Nagy, Carl Brown, Ramona Von Boeckman, Debbie Brock and Theresa Perry have turned the court at Walter Sillers Coliseum into their playground over the decades and this year two of the games current stars – Sarita “Bug” Cooper and Chad Akins are trying to put this small school, centered in the heart of the Mississippi Delta on the point guard map. Their play over the last two years has been nothing less than extroidinary, making DSU Division II’s – Point Guard U.
