BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The Delta State University Statesmen (19-7) will begin the Gulf South Conference Tournament quest Friday, March 5 at 5:30 p.m. versus the Lions (12-15) of the University of North Alabama. Southaven's Desoto Civic Center serves as the home of the 2010 GSC Tournament for a third consecutive year. The Statesmen, six-time GSC champions, are seeking their first league title since the 2005-2006 season.
The men's tournament begins at 12;30 p.m. with Arkansas-Monticello (W3/14-10) facing GSC East Division co-champion Valdosta State (E2/24-3). Game two features West Georgia (E4/13-14) squaring off with GSC West Division champion Arkansas Tech (W1/25-1) at 2:45 p.m.
The evening sessions begins at 5:30 p.m. with the Statesmen (W2/19-7) tackling North Alabama (E3/12-15). The final game of the day will pit East Division co-champions Alabama-Huntsville (E1/21-5) versus Harding (W4/16-11) at 7:30 p.m.
Friday's winners will advance to Saturday's GSC Tournament Semifinal Round.
The Statesmen and Lions will be meeting for the second time this season, as DSU defeated UNA 75-70 at Walter Sillers Coliseum on Nov. 30, 2009. DSU leads the all-time series 39-35.
All games at the GSC Tournament will be broadcast on the Statesmen Sports Network starting 15 minutes prior to tip-off with the "SouthGroup Insurance :Locker Room Report." Jimmy Smith, Matt Jones, John Cox, J.T. Webb and Alan Wiederhold have the call.
