Laura Nichols, a sophomore on the Delta State University Statesmen Swimming & Diving team, garners this week's GoStatesmen.com Female Student-Athlete of the Week Award after leading the Lady Statesmen to a 122-111 victory over Henderson State University. Â
Nichols, a native of Columbia, S.C., powered the Lady Statesmen to the win with first place finishes in the 50-Freestyle and 100-Freestyle events. Â The speedster hit the boards in 24.63 to win the 50-Free event, while posting a 54.06 in the 100-Free. Both times for Nichols were lifetime bests, a mark that she has topped each of the last three weeks in the same events.
Nichols and the Lady Statesmen return to action on Feb. 4, as DSU travels to Shreveport, La. to take on Centenary College.
