Kelsey Shumate, a freshman runner on the Lady Statesmen Cross Country team, has been named the GoStatesmen.com Female Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending Monday, Oct. 1. Â Tuesday's honor is the first in Shumate's career. Â
The Clinton, Miss., native turned in a career performance last Saturday, recording a personal best 5K time of 20:54, Â earning 49th place at the Rhodes College Collegiate Classic in Memphis, Tenn. Â Shumate's time bested her previous top time by almost 19 seconds. Â
Shumate and the Lady Statesmen return to action this Saturday, Oct. 6 at the Disney World XC Classic in Orlando, Fla. Â Â
