Laura Nichols, a junior on the Lady Statesmen Swimming and Diving team, has been named the GoStatesmen.com Female Student-Athlete of the Week after helping lead the Lady Statesmen to victory against Ouachita Baptist in a dual meet this past weekend.  

The Irmo, S.C. native won two individual meets and was a member of a relay victory as well in the dual meet. Nichols first took a victory in the 50-Freestyle edging out teammate Shawnee Gundry with a 24.71 for the victory. Nichols then won the 100-Freestyle with a 54.08. She also teamed up for the victory in the 400-Medley Relay with a 4:01.55, winning by five seconds. The Lady Statesmen went on to defeat Ouachita Baptist for the third straight time in dual meets.

Nichols and the Lady Statesmen will return to the pool next Saturday as Delta State looks for the sweep of Hendeson State in dual meets this season.
