Karl-Richard Hennebach, a freshman for the Delta State University Swimming and Diving team, has been named the GoStatesmen.com Male Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sunday, Feb. 17.
The Leipzig, Germany native helped the Statesmen to a second place finish in the NSISC Championships, while capturing the Male High Point Athlete Award and setting his second NCAA A cut time of the season. Hennebach picked up two victories in the 100-Backstroke (48.52, A cut, NSISC and Pool Record) and the 100-Freestyle (44.74). Hennebach also had a second place finish in the 50-Freestyle (20.42). Hennebach also was a member of the 200 and 400-Medley Relay teams for the Statesmen that took first place in both events.
Hennebach, by successfully swimming an A cut time, will compete in the National Championships from March 13-16. The complete list of qualified swimmers for the event will be announced Wednesday by the NCAA.
