Heidi Nichols, a junior for the Delta State University Swimming and Diving team, has been named the GoStatesmen.com Female Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sunday, Feb. 17.
The Columbia, S.C. native helped the Lady Statesmen to a NSISC Conference Championship, while capturing the Female High Point Athlete Award. Nichols picked up two victories in the 200-Breaststroke (2:21.35) and the 200-Individual Medley (2:06.87). Nichols also had a second place finish in the 100-Breaststroke (1:04.54), finishing .02 seconds behind twin sister Laura.
Nichols and the rest of the Lady Statesmen will wait for the selection of swimmers for the National Championships from March 13-16. The complete list of qualified swimmers for the event will be announced Wednesday by the NCAA.
