Delta State University

Josh Branstetter, a senior pitcher on the Statesman baseball team, has been named the GoStatesmen.com Male Student-Athlete of the Week for the period ending Sunday, April 7 after leading top-ranked Delta State to a weekend sweep of Shorter University.  

The Pensacola, Fla., native tossed a complete-game with five strikeouts in DSU's 8-1 series opener versus the Hawks on Saturday.  Branstetter allowed a single run on six hits and did not walk a batter for the third consecutive start.  The win moved the hard-throwing right-hander to 5-1 on the season with a Gulf South Conference leading 1.14 ERA.  

Branstetter's complete-game win also moved the four-year starter to fifth with 289.1 innings pitched on the career list.  He also improved to 22-8 with a 2.77 ERA in 46 career appearances and 41 starts.  His 22 wins also rank 11th on the career charts at DSU.
