Abi Gibson, a sophomore shortstop for the Delta State softball team, has been named CableOne Gostatesmen.com Female Athlete of the Week.Â
Gibson led the Lady Statesmen offense during Delta State softball's season opening weekend at the Gulf Coast Invite, in Gulf Shores, Ala., on Feb. 4-6. Gibson finished the weekend going 9-for-16 with four runs and four RBIs.

The Lady Statesmen concluded the Gulf Coast Invite with a 2-4 record. In Delta State's win against Miles College on Feb. 4, Gibson went 3-for-4 with three runs and two RBIs. She went 1-for-2 in Delta State's win against Tuskegee on Feb. 5, with an RBI and a run scored.Â
She is currently batting .563, which ranks sixth in the GSC. She is fifth in the conference with an on base percentage of .650. Her nine hits rank third in the GSC. Â
The Lady Statesmen will be back in action this Friday-Sunday at the Montevallo Falcon Frenzy in Montevallo, Ala. Delta State will kick-off the three-day tournament against Miles College at 11:15 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 10. Â
