This week’s CableOne GoStatesmen.com Female Athlete of the Week is Lucia Martelli of the Lady Statesmen swim team.
Martelli helped the Lady Statesmen finish second at the DSU Christmas Invite, as she claimed three individual races.
Martelli won both butterfly events (100 and 200) and the 100-Backstroke. In her victory in the 100-Butterfly, Martelli swam a school record 54.30. It marked the third time she has broken the record this year.
The Bologna, Italy native finished her meet by swimming the third-best 200-Butterfly (2:02.65) in school history.
Martelli was a member of the 200-Freestyle relay (1:35.51, 8th) 400-Freestyle relay (3:27.73, 5th) and 800-Freestyle relay (7:27.71, 4th) teams that established new DSU top-10 times.
