This week’s CableOne GoStatesmen.com Male Athlete of the Week is PJ Davis of the Statesmen basketball team.
Davis, a Cleveland, Miss. native, averaged 16.7 points, 5.0 rebounds, 1.0 steal and 1.7 blocks per game and was a Second Team All-GSC Selection. Davis shot 50% from the floor in Delta State's run to the GSC championship game.
The East Side HS product tallied 24 points, including 20 in the second half, as the Statesmen upset 14th ranked and top-seeded Valdosta State on Saturday, March 3. Davis followed suite with a 20 point, four rebound performance in the GSC title game against #12 West Florida.
Davis finished the season averaging career highs with 16.3 points per game, 6.2 rebounds per game. 1.5 blocks per game and shot 50 percent (23-for-46) from the floor.
Davis finished his career with 1,350 points and 746 rebounds, ranking 8th and 6th in those categories, respectively. Davis also totaled 199 blocks for his career, which ranks first in school history and third all-time in the GSC history.
