Sarah Mumme, a senior on the Lady Statesmen Cross Country team, was named the 2019 Charles S. Kerg Female Student-Athlete of Year. Mumme starred for the Lady Statesmen Cross Country team and coach
Doug Pinkerton the last four years, earning All-Gulf South Conference honors in 2018. A three-year team captain and four-year member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee, Mumme saved her best season for last as the Holcombe native was the top finisher in each race for Delta State including the second fastest 5K time in program history with a 18:47 at the University of Arkansas-Little Rock Classic. She captured 19th overall at the Gulf South Conference Championships in Nove,ber, running a 19:00 to earn All-GSC (2nd Team) honors.Â
A standout student, the biology major carries a 3.95 GPA and is a four-time Gulf South Conference Academic Honor Roll recipient and a two-time United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association Scholar-Athlete. Mumme has received numerous academic honors including the Trustmark Bank Scholarship, Sonny Blakeman Scholarship, Miller Coors Scholarship, Jesse White Scholarship, Melvin Cohen Scholarship, Cross Country Endowed Scholarship, and Josh & Orena Adams Scholarship. She is also a member of Alpha Epsilon Delta National Honor Society.
Ever active within her community, Mumme serves on leadership team for the Wesley Foundation, volunteered countless hours for Delta Down and Dirty Kids Run, Crosstie Arts and Jazz Festival, Grenada Soup Kitchen, and worked as a mentor for an after school program. She has also worked on a mission trip to Delta Grace, a ministry in Sunflower, MS that works on underprivileged people's homes, raised funds for the Make-A-Wish Foundation and read to local youth as a volunteer at local elementary schools.
