HOUSTON, TEXAS- The Statesmen, trailing 0-2 at the break came back with two goals by David Horstmann but it wasn't enough as Houston Baptist scored two goals in the final ten minutes to get the win, 4-2 Monday afternoon.
The loss is the third straight for the Statesmen who fall to 7-5-1 (0-1) on the year as the Huskies improve to 5-3-0 on the year.
The Huskies opened the scoring at the 16 minute mark with a goal Chris Meyer, his first on the year. HBU made it 2-0 with a goal by Adi Mesic three minutes before halftime. The Statesmen outshot the Huskies 8-6 in the first half however goalkeeper Michael Bouchahine shut them down with three saves.
The Statesmen rallied after the break with back-to-back goals by Horstmann bringing his total to eight on the year. The Huskies broke the deadlock and sealed the win with two goals by Ruzhdi Halili in a span of five minutes.
“It's a tough lost for the guys today”, head coach Jim Allen said. “We had our chances in the first half but couldn't find a way to score. David did a good job getting us back in the game, but we just seemed to lose focus as the game winded down”.
Trey Jones picked up four saves in the loss.
The Statesmen continue GSC action this Friday as they battle Harding University. Kick-off is set for 3 p.m.
