Statesmen fall in OT to Wovles, 90-87

CARROLTON, Ga.- The Delta State University men's basketball team battled for 45 mintues of intense basketball, but West Georgia proved too much down the stretch, as they held on for a 90-87 overtime win Saturday night at the HPE Building. The Statesmen fall to 1-1 on the season, as the Wolves, who shot 80 percent in the overtime period, picked up their first win on the year and improve to 1-3. 

Delta State shot 47 percent from the floor in the first half, yet still trailed by four at the break 32-36. The Statesmen was successful at the line, going 9-of-14 and just 1-of-7 from behind the arch. David Clark racked up eight points to lead the Statesmen at the break shooting 4-of-4 from the floor. 

West Georgia stepped up their game in the second half, outshooting the Statesmen 60 to 48 percent on the floor yet had to come back to send the game into overtime 77-77 after regulation. 

The Statesmen had four players finish in double figures led by Clarks24 points and nine rebounds. Alton Robinson (17), Stanley Copeland (13) and Oliver Mansour (11) rounded out the top scorers for Delta State. 

The Statesmen remain on the road this week, as they travel to Montevallo, Ala., to take on the University of Montevallo. Tip-off is set for 7:30.
