CLEVELAND - Edwin Maysonet, a two-time all-conference second baseman/shortstop for Delta State University, was one of five players from Triple-A Round Rock to get called up to the Houston Astros on the first day of roster expansion. Maysonet was a member of the Delta State University baseball team from 2002-2003, where he was a two-time all-Gulf South Conference and American Baseball Coaches Association all-region selection.

In 2003 Maysonet was selected in the 19th round of the Major League Baseball Draft by the Houston Astros. He would go on to hit .275 over 45 games for Single-A Tri-City.

The following year he pounded out ten triples, which would place him tenth in the South Atlantic league, and first on the Lexington Legends. He would also lead Lexington in runs (79), and was named Defensive Player of the Month for June.

Maysonet spent 2005 with Lexington and Salem, Single-A teams of the Astros. With Salem in 2006, Maysonet had 21 steals, 32 doubles, and 58 runs.

He showed off his glove with the Corpus Christi Hooks in 2007 by recording a .966 fielding percentage in 438 chances. He was named Corpus Christi's Defensive Player of the Month for June and July.
Before getting called up to finish the season with the Astros, Maysonet ripped 59 hits and 24 doubles for a .271 average with Round Rock.

“I am proud of him and everything he has accomplished in his baseball career. He has been improving every year and I hope to see more great things from him,” stated DSU head coach Mike Kinnison

Maysonet is set to meet up with the Astros at Wrigley field in Chicago on September 2 to take on the Cubs. Game time is at 7:05 p.m.
