SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - The Delta State University Statesmen dominated all game long, racing to a 9-0 victory over Robert Morris-Springfield Friday night behind a three-goal effort from junior forward Daniel Junkin. The Statesmen are now 2-1 on the season, while the Eagles fall to 0-3.

The Statesmen were off to their best start thus far this season, scoring eight goals in the first half. Junior forward Junkin stole the show with his first career hat-trick in a 12 minute span to close out the first half. The green and white tallied 15 shots in the half to the Eagles 4. Junior Bruce Snow notched his first two on the season, while Stephen Hummel, Ricardo Callendar and David Smith rounded out the scoring before the break. 

Freshman Thomas Cox scored the lone goal for the Statesmen in the second half.

“This was a good win for our boys tonight,” head coach Jim Allen said. “I was pleased with the work ethic they put in all game and glad to see some of the new guys get some playing time."

The Statesmen remain in Illinois to take on Robert Morris-Lake County Sunday afternoon. Kick-off is set for 2 p.m.
