Weekly Release: Lady Statesmen Basketball Game Notes - SAU/ATU

CLEVELAND - The Lady Statesmen (13-5, 3-0 GSC) of Delta State University look to extend their 27-game Gulf South Conference win streak this week with a pair of games against Southern Arkansas (7-9, 1-2 GSC) and No. 16 Arkansas Tech (13-3, 3-0 GSC). The Lady Statesmen travel to SAU on Jan. 22 for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff before returning to Sillers Coliseum face the Golden Suns on Jan. 24 at 4 p.m. 

The Lady Statesmen extended their GSC-record conference win streak last week to 27 games by defeating UA-Monticello 59-45 and Christian Brothers 74-42. All-America candidate Bug Cooper (5-6• Soph. • PG) averaged 14.5 points and 8.5 assists last week to lead the Lady Statesmen. Sophomore shooting guard Moe Bell (5-10 • So. • G) capped the week with a 15 point effort at CBU. 

This week the nation will be watching, as the Lady Statesmen winners of 12-of-13 face SAU and ATU. The DSU-ATU series has developed into one of the GSC's biggest rivalries. Thursday's games at SAU and Saturday's contests with ATU will be broadcast on the Statesmen Sports Network starting 15 minutes prior to tipoff.
