Weekly Release No. 5: Henderson State/Harding vs. Lady Statesmen Basketball

CLEVELAND - The Lady Statesmen (15-5, 5-0 GSC) of Delta State University look to extend their 29-game Gulf South Conference win streak this week with a pair of games against Harding (13-4, 1-4 GSC) and Henderson State (8-9, 2-3 GSC). The Lady Statesmen travel to HU on Jan. 29 for a 5:30 p.m. tipoff before returning to Sillers Coliseum to face the Reddies on Jan. 31 at 4 p.m. 

The Lady Statesmen outscored their competition last week 137-77 en route to perfect 2-0 week. Delta State defeated Southern Arkansas, 78-44, in Magnolia, and throttled then-No. 16 Arkansas Tech, 59-33, at Sillers Coliseum. 

Coach Rushing hopes the hot play of sophomore guard Bug Cooper, who leads NCAA DII in assists (7.0 apg), will continue. Cooper handed out 21 assists in last week's games, several to freshman sensation Veronica Walker. Walker leads the GSC in field goal percentage at 69.2, and last week, the 6-foot-1 power forward averaged 21 points and 7.0 rebounds per game. Moe Bell has also picked up her scoring averages (10.1 ppg), after dropping a career-high 23 points on the Lady Muleriders. 

Both games this week will be broadcast on the Lady Statesmen Sports Network beginning 15 minutes prior to tip-off with the "SouthGroup Insurance Locker Room Report."  J.T. Webb (play-by-play) and Troy Treasure (Color Analyst) will have the call.
