CLEVELAND- The Delta State University Statesmen continued to put up big offensive numbers, defeating Pace University, 12-1, Sunday afternoon for the three-game sweep at Ferriss Field.
The Statesmen extend their winning streak to a season-high four games, as they improve to 10-9 and Pace falls to 2-4.
After scoreless innings in the first and second, the Statesmen opened up with a 2-0 lead in the third, with RBIs by
Devin Goodwin and
Steven Oswald.
Goodwin hit his fourth home run in three-games with a three-run blast in the fourth, as the Statesmen would tack on four more runs.
Delta State would plate five more runs in the fifth and sixth innings, capping off nine unanswered before Pace scored their only run in the top of the seventh inning.
Oswald finished 4-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored to lead the Statesmen, while Goodwin finished 2-for-3 with a home run (6) and four RBIs.
Korey Cunningham (2-2) grabbed the win, pitching 5.0 scoreless innings allowing just three hits.
Giuseppe Granitto was credited with the loss, giving up seven runs on nine hits.
The Statesmen will host Kentucky State Tuesday for the first of three games at Ferriss Field. First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
