Statesmen and Flames play to 2-2 tie at Delta Field

CLEVELAND - After a fast paced first half that saw the Lee University Flames (2-2-2) take a 2-1 edge, the Delta State University Statesmen (1-3-1) for a late goal to send the game into overtime.  Both teams had their chances in extras, but in the end the clock won out, as the game ended in a 2-2 tie.

In the first frame, the Flames jumped out to a quick 1-0 lead in the 20th minute on the first of Josh Inglis' two goals on the day.  Earl Curtis Alcide placed a perfect pass between two Statesmen defenders allowing Inglis to find the back of the net.

Inglis made it 2-0 Lee in the 38th minute with a dagger past Statesmen keeper Flavio Romero, again off an assist from Alcide.

The Statesmen finally scratched the board on Gatlin Traub's slicing shot past Lee keeper Luidgi Beausile in the 43rd minute.

The first half horn sounded with Lee leading 2-1.  The Flames out shot the Statesmen in the first half 7-3.

In the second half, coach Jim Allen's adjustments paid off,as the Statesmen defense kept the Flames offense at-bay.

Solid DSU defense led to several opportunities for the Statesmen.  In the 87th minute, the Statesmen knotted the contest at 2-2.  David Horstmann found the back of the net off a perfectly placed corner kick from Josh Jokic

The two teams played a scoreless final two minutes to head to overtime.

In the first overtime, Lee fired three shots, but none on goal.  DSU didn't manage an official shot, but kept the pressure on LU.

In the second frame, fatigue clearly sat in for both clubs.  Lee connected on two shots, but too challenging for Romero.  DSU pressed the Flames late, but could not muster any offense to end the game tied at 2-2.

Romero finished with one save on the day, while Beasuile tallied two.

The Statesmen return to action this Friday at Louisiana College.  Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. in Pineville, La.  The Lady Statesmen will play prior to the game at 3 p.m.
