PIKEVILLE, Ky.-The Delta State University Statesmen soccer team exploded for three goals in a 3-0 shutout win over Pikeville college on Monday.
The three goals tied a season high for the Statesmen. Three freshmen scored their fourth goals of the season in the win.
Eljay Allen put the Statesmen on the board in the 26th minute, when his free kick found the back of the net.
Four minutes later,
Adam Brundle scored for the second straight game, giving his side the 2-0 lead before halftime.

Patrick McPherson put the finishing touches on the game with a shot from just outside the box in the 49th minute.
The Statesmen (5-11-0) peppered PC keeper Sheldon Thomas with 25 shots, including 15 shots on goal. Both were season highs for DSU.
PC (1-13-1) only managed four shots, one of which was on frame, against a very stingy Statesmen defense.

The Statesmen will attempt to close the season on a high note, as they travel to Memphis, Tenn., Sun. Oct. 31 to take on Christian Brothers in a non-conference matchup for their last game of the 2010 campaign.
DSU defeated the Bucs 1-0 on Sept. 29.
