Lions score a school record 17 three pointers to defeat Statesmen, 95-75

FLORENCE, ALA. - The Lions of the University of North Alabama connected on a school record 17 three point attempts to defeat the Statesmen of Delta State University, 95-75. The Lions were an impressive 56.5 percent from beyond the arch on the night, shooting 11-16 from long range for 68.8 percent in the second half.

The Lions started the game on a 5-1run after a basket by Marcus Landry and a three point bucket by Rick Davison. The Statesmen would climb back to take the lead 9-5 after a three pointer by senior Chris Poellnitz.

The Statesmen led most of the first half but UNA would rally to take a three point lead into the locker room at the half, leading DSU 40-37.

The Statesmen shot 56 percent from the floor going 14-25. The Statesmen also connected on 4-8 from beyond the Arch for 50 percent. DSU out rebounded the Lions 19-12. Junior Forward Marqueys Brown led all scorers at the half with 15 points and five rebounds.

The second half belonged to UNA as the Lions jumped out to a 67-48 lead on a layup by Nick Luttrell with 11:36 left in the game. The Lions would never look back.

Brown led all scorers with 20 points while grabbing five rebounds. Poellnitz added 16 points while senior transfer Ken Mitchell chipped in 10 points. The Statesmen out rebounded UNA 35-28 but committed 17 turnovers in the loss.

Beaumont Beasley and Ricky Davison paced UNA with 15 points each while Luttrell added 14 points. Davison went 5-9 from three point range while Beasley went 3-5 from the top of the key.

The Statesmen return to the court on December 2 versus West Alabama in Livingston, Ala., tipoff is set for 7:30 pm.
