GAME NOTES: Statesmen Basketball vs. West Florida/Valdosta State (12.12-14.10)

CLEVELAND - The Delta State University Men's basketball team will continue play in the Gulf South Conference Crossover this week, as the Statesmen (4-4) welcome the West Florida Argonauts (2-5) and Valdosta State Blazers (7-2) to Walter Sillers Coliseum. 

The Statesmen will put their two game win streak and undefeated home record on the line Sunday, Dec. 12 against the Argonauts.  Tipoff is set for 4 p.m. and the game will be broadcast on the Statesmen Sports Network starting at 3:45 p.m. 

DSU and UWF last met on Dec. 13, 2009 with the Statesmen taking a 75-63 victory away from UWF Fieldhouse.  Junior center Marqueys Brown had eight points and eight rebounds in the win. 

Delta State will return to the court against the Blazers on Tuesday, Dec. 14, as Valdosta State makes its first regular season trip to Cleveland since the 1992-93 season.  Former Statesmen head coach Steve Rives directed DSU to an 89-62 win over VSU on Feb. 20, 1993. 

Both teams met that season at the P.E. Complex in Valdosta, Ga., with the Blazers taking a 102-93 victory.  Marqueys Brown had 17 points and six boards for the Statesmen in the loss.
