CLEVELAND-The Delta State University soccer team went in to Saturday's contest versus Freed Hardeman with a two game winning streak, but a 50th minute goal was enough for FHU to earn a 1-0 win over DSU.
FHU (7-1) got the game winner in the 50th minute from Guilherme Dorigo, as he headed a shot past DSU goalkeeper
Flavio Romero.
The Statesmen (2-5) were held to only nine shots, compared to only 10 for FHU, in the defensive battle.
Romero saved six shots, compared to five for FHU keeper Hunter Yoches.
The loss was the final tune-up before the first Gulf South Conference match of the year.
The Statesmen will host Ouachita Baptist in the conference opener on Friday.
Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. at Delta Field. There is no charge for admission, and everyone is encouraged to attend.
