Box Score CLEVELAND – The University of Arkansas-Monticello Boll Weevils used a 9-0 run to open the second half to pull away with an 83-62 win Tuesday night at Walter Sillers Coliseum.
With the win, the Weevils swept the season series 2-0.
The Statesmen (4-4) jumped out to a quick 10-3 lead with 16:46 remaining in the opening half, before the Weevils took the lead for good at 17-16 with 11:21 left.
UAM (7-2) took a 38-30 lead into halftime, after taking advantage of 4-for-9 three point shooting in the first half, which lead to a 13-of-31 (41.9) percentage at the end of the first 20 minutes of play. DSU finished 14-of-33 (42.4) percent.
The Weevils also took advantage of 16 first half free throw attempts, while DSU managed only two.
Kori Forge led all scorers with 15 points in the first half.
Marqueys Brown paced the Statesmen with eight.
UAM stormed out of the locker room in the second half, with a 9-0 run to lead 47-30 with 17:01 remaining. The Statesmen used a run of their own to cut the lead to 54-45 with 10:01 remaining, which was as close as DSU could get the remainder of the contest.
The Weevils used the long range shot to pull away, shooting 7-of-15 three point range to finish 24-of-55 (43.6) for the contest. DSU could not find any luck from behind the three point stripe, finishing 0-12. The Statesmen finished 25-of-67 from the floor (37.3).
UAM pounded the interior and as a result, finished 28-of-42 from the free throw stripe, while DSU was 12-of-19.
L.A. Farmer finished with 25 a game high 25 points for the Boll Weevils. Brown lead the way for the Statesmen with 14.
DSU will return to action on Sat. December 17 at 7 p.m. where it will play host to former Gulf South Conference opponent Southern Arkansas University.
