Statesmen delivered tough loss by Arkansas Tech 90-59

RUSSELLVILE, Ark.- After dressing only eight guys, the Delta State Statesmen were delivered a tough loss by the Wonder Boys of Arkansas Tech 90-59 Saturday, Feb. 19 at Tucker Coliseum.

The Statesmen had a difficult time putting an offense together in the first half. They made only 6 of 26 field goal attempts and 0 of 6 free throw attempts. Off the 11 DSU turnovers, Arkansas Tech scored 24 points. Going into the half, the Wonder Boys led 48-15.

The offensive struggles continued in the second half, but the green-and-white never gave up.

“We could have quit, but we kept chugging along,” said head coach Jason Conner.

Johnie Davis and Jeremy Dunbar took charge of the ATU offense. Davis scored 20 points while Dunbar scored 19.

Jamarkus Holt helped the Statesmen on both sides of the court. He ended the night with 13 points, 12 rebounds, two assists and one steal.

The Statesmen finished the night 40.5 percent from the field (17-42) and 30 percent from behind the arch (3-10). They had a stellar night from the line shooting 73.3 percent (22-30).

The Statesmen will head off to Canale Arena on Thursday, Feb 24 to face Christian Brothers University for their final away game in the regular season. Tip off is set for 7 p.m.
