Statesmen defeated 3-1 by Freed-Hardeman

Box Score HENDERSON, Tenn.—The Statesmen soccer team continued to struggle as they took on Freed-Hardeman Monday night. After giving up two first half goals, the Statesmen fell to the Lions 3-1.

The Lions got on the board first in the 22nd minute. Kenniel Hyde put the ball in the back of the net. He was assisted by Philipp Baier on the goal. The Lions struck again a couple minutes later. Hyde assisted Simarashe Zvaita for the Lions second goal of the game in the 25th minute.

After trailing 2-0 at halftime, the Statesmen got back into the match in the 55th minute. Junior midfielder Steven Simmons scored his first goal of the season to give the Statesmen new life.

The Lions (6-0) however closed the match out with their third goal of the game. Hyde picked up his second assist of the match, as Baier scored for the Lions in the 84th minute.

The Statesmen (0-4) were out shot by the Lions 19-8. Five of the Statesmen's shots were on goal, while nine of the Lions' shots were on target. Junior goalkeeper Flavio Romero made three saves for the Statesmen. Alexandre Girodo made four stops for the Lions.

The referees were busy as the Statesmen picked up four cards with two players being sent off. Sophomore Frazier Pain picked up a yellow card in the 53rd minute, and freshman Stetson Chamberlin picked up a yellow of his own in the 54th minute. Simmons was sent off with a red card in the 90th minute. Sophomore Eljay Allen was also sent off with a red in the 90th minute. Both Stevens and Allen will have to sit out the Statesmen's next match due to their ejections.

The Lions picked up one red card. Archibold Marowa was sent off in the 90th minute, and he will have to miss his next match.

The Statesmen now return home for a Wednesday match against Ouachita Baptist. The game gets underway at 2 p.m. at Delta Field, and is also available online on the Statesmen Radio Network.
