Box Score CLEVELAND, Miss. – The Statesmen (3-3, 1-1 GSC) of Delta State University rallied from a 17-13 fourth quarter deficit to claim a 33-24 victory over the Wolves (2-4, 0-3 GSC) of the University of West Georgia Saturday, Oct. 13 at Parker Field-McCool Stadium. DSU scored 20 points in the final 15 minutes to claim coach Jamey Chadwell's first career win in Cleveland and snap a 0-3 start at home.
“So proud of what our guys were able to accomplish tonight here at Parker Field-McCool Stadium,” Chadwell said. “Our offensive line really proved to be the difference in the fourth quarter and our defense made the stops when we had to have them.”
The Statesmen took a 6-0 lead in the first quarter as
Trevor Wooden ran in for a 5-yard touchdown with 4:58 left in the frame. Wooden's fifth rushing touchdown capped a 10-play, 60-yard drive.

After a solid defensive stand by the DSU “Black Swarm” unit, the Statesmen offense again found its way into the endzone.
Justin McArthur scored his first career rushing touchdown with 12:07 to go in the second quarter on a 13-yard run. The Green-and-White covered 60 yards in 11 plays to go up 13-0.
The Wolves finally got into the contest with 5:54 to play in the half, as Dallas Dickey scored on a 7-yard quarterback keeper to cut the deficit to 13-7. UWG mounted its best drive of the half after rolling up 78 yards on 13 plays in 6:07.
DSU closed the first half with 195 yards on 35 plays. Wooden finished the first half 10-of-15 passing for 103 yards, while rushing 13 times for 43 yards and a touchdown.
UWG totaled 131 yards on 24 plays, including 46 yards rushing by David Bailey.
The Wolves took the first possession of the second half and after stalling at the Statesmen 30-yard line, Davis Bracket nailed a 47-yard field goal to make it 13-10 DSU with 11:05 to play in the third quarter.
David Bailey and the Wolves took the lead on a 30-yard scamper for a 17-13 lead with 3:38 to go in the third. The drive covered 53 yards on just six plays, as the Wolves kept the scoring going with 17 unanswered points.
Wooden and the Statesmen offense finally answered the UWG run with 9-play, 75-yard scoring drive to reclaim the lead 19-17. The junior quarterback capped the drive with a 20-yard touchdown run, his second of the game, with 14:53 to play. Jones had his second point after attempt blocked to keep it at a two point DSU advantage.
DSU's defense was called to make a stand and get a stop on UWG's next possession. After Dickey rumbled for two long runs, the Statesmen bristled and on 4th-and-5 from the 29-yard line
Kenny Barnes, last week's hero, knocked down a long pass intended for Bobby Burrm to force the turnover on downs.
The Statesmen made it a two-possession game on Wooden's 14-yard touchdown pass to
Kevin Jackson for a 26-17 lead with 6:31 to play. The 71-yard drive made it a 13-0 run for DSU after another big defensive stand.
With 3:21 to play in the game, UWG answered the Statesmen on a 3-yard Bailey touchdown run up the middle to make it 26-24 DSU. The Wolves marched 75 yards on nine plays, including two third down scrambles for first downs by Dickey.
DSU answered right back on a Wooden 1-yard touchdown run with 1:35 to play to go back up nine, 33-24. The scoring play was setup by a
Brant Botill 49-yard run. DSU marched 74 yards on a mere five plays in 1:46.
The Wolves had one last chance, but the Statesmen defense slammed the door for the 33-24 victory.
DSU finished the contest with 436 yards of total offense on 73 plays, including a season-high 282 yards rushing. The Statesmen also passed for 154 yards, as Wooden completed 15-of-21 attempts with a touchdown and an interception. The junior from High Springs, Fla., also rushed for career-high three touchdowns and 93 yards on 21 carries.
Botill finished the contest with 101 yards on 12 carries, while Rondreaus Truesdale closed out the game with 51 yards on 12 rushes. McArthur had four carried for 21 yards and a score.

Patrick Bethley all had three catches to pace the Statesmen receiving corps.
Montavious Hill and Barnes led the DSU defense with seven tackles each, while
Diego Lubin had six stops, 1.5 tackles-for-loss and 1.5 sacks.
Rory Island also had six tackles.
UWG finished with 330 yards on 58 plays, led by two 100-yard runners. Bailey led all rushers with 111 yards and two touchdowns on 17 carries, while Dickey had 110 yards and a score on 12 attempts. Dickey was also 9-of-17 passing for 77 yards.
Bobby Loggins and Lorenzo Ford led all defenders with 10 stops each.
The Statesmen return to the field next Saturday, Oct. 20 at Valdosta State University. Kickoff is set for 3 p.m. EST, 2 p.m. CST at Bazemore-Hyder Stadium in Valdosta, Ga. The game will be broadcast on the Statesmen Sports Network.
