Box Score 2 MEMPHIS, Tenn. - The Delta State Statesmen Baseball team picked up a pair of big wins Saturday in a doubleheader against Christian Brothers, outscoring the Buccaneers 33-4 in the two games.
Ben Pickard hit a grand slam and
Josh Branstetter pitched a complete game to propel the Statesmen to a 14-2 win in game one against Christian Brothers.
Eight starters had atleast one hit and Kasey Hintonreached base twice on hit by pitches, putting all nine starters on base safely in the game.
Michael Vinson reached base in all four plate appearances, recording two hits and two walks. Vinson scored three runs and had two RBIs.
Pickard's four RBIs on the grand slam led the team in game one but four other Statesmen had two RBIs in the game.
Tyler Aldridge, who extended his hitting streak to 22 games in game one, had two RBIs, along with
Brent Langston and
Josh Crowdus.
Branstetter improved to 4-1 on the season with eight strikeouts in seven innings for a complete game. The senior gave up five hits and did not allow a walk.
In game two,
Jordan Chovanec had four RBIs and
Sam Kidd had three RBIs to lead the way as the Statesmen won 19-2.
Ricky Winters improved to 4-0 on the year in his second start of the season.
Kidd and Chovanec each went 3-for-4 in game two. Aldridge also extended his hitting streak, going 2-for-4 in the game.
Vinson continued his strong day, going 2-for-3 in game two with a walk. Vinson finished 4-for-5 on the day with three walks, five runs and two RBIs.
Winters pitched six innings, giving up two unearned runs on two hits, while striking out five and giving up no walks.
The Statesmen starting lineup all reached base safely in game two. Eight of the starting Statesmen had atleast one hit in game two. On the day, 14 of the 16 Statesmen to make plate appearances reached base safely.
Delta State will look to close out the series Sunday with the final game of the series set for 1 p.m. at Buc Field.
