CLEVELAND, Tennessee- The Delta State University Statesmen soccer team traveled to Lee University to face the Flames in Gulf South Conference action Friday evening.
Delta State's defense was able to hold the Flames scoreless until the 32
nd minute when David Perez served in a cross off a corner kick and Dave Franco finished the header for his first goal of the season. Franco's goal put Lee up 1-0 and their lead would hold up to the halftime whistle.
The physical match continued for both sides after the intermission. Delta State was unable to break through the Flames defensive line or goalkeeper Tom Halsall.
Ricardo Filho led the Statesmen attack with a total of five shots;
Tiago Doneux had three shots on frame.
The Green-and-White held the 16-14 advantage in shots, they aslo held the advantage in corners 9-7.
Jonathan Hilton gloved six saves for DSU and his opponent had seven.
The Statesmen continue their road trip as they head into Rome, Georgia to face GSC opponent Shorter University this Sunday, Oct. 19 at 3 p.m.
