ROME, Georgia- The Delta State University men's soccer team fell to Shorter University in a critical Gulf South Conference match-up.
Shorter University jumped out to an early lead against the Statesmen. The Hawks scored two goals within four minutes. The first goal came from Ryan Horn when he scored on a Charlie Dennis assist in the 16th minute of play. Shortly there after in the 21st minute Irvin Espinal netted the second goal to give SU the 2-0 lead.
The Hawks continued to press the Green-and-White defense and pulled ahead with another goal from Robert Ochleng in the 68th minute. Dennis assisted Ochleng for his second assist of the match. Lucas Cavenco netted the final goal of the night for the Hawks to make the final score 4-0.
Delta State was outshot by Shorter, 23-9. Shorter also held the advantage 11-1 in shots on goal.
Jonathan Hilton made seven saves for the Statesmen and his opponent, Nicolas Ferrigno, made just one.
DSU returns home to play a previously rainout match this Tuesday, Oct. 21 at 3 p.m., as the Union Bulldogs visit Delta Field.
