Lambert leads Delta State to a 1-0 Victory over Spring Hill

CLEVELAND, Mississippi- The Delta State University men's soccer team snagged their third straight win with a victory over GSC newcomer Spring Hill College at Delta Field, 1-0.

Both teams handed each other a huge defensive battle for the majority of the match. Spring Hill had the offensive advantage taking a total of eight first-half shots to DSU's five. Neither team could break through as the halftime whistle blew. The teams headed to their benches for the half in a scoreless tie.

In the 65th minute the Statesmen offense finally broke through the Badger backline. Jaxon Lambert received a through-ball from Bryce Childers inside the 18-yard-box. Lambert took on the keeper 1v1 and slotted the ball into the lower corner of the goal to give DSU the 1-0 advantage.

Lambert's goal would hold up to the final whistle to give Delta State the victory. Jonathan Hilton preserved the shutout in goal for the Green-and-White making three saves. His opponent, Jacob Files, gloved four.

Spring Hill outshot the Statesmen, 12-8 but DSU held the slight advantage in corner kicks, 5-4.

Delta State will close out the regular season on Friday, Oct. 31 at 3 p.m. at Delta Field as Concordia College (Ala.) comes to town
