JACKSON, Mississippi – The Lady Statesmen soccer team of Delta State University traveled down the road to Jackson to face off with Millsaps College. Two overtimes and 110 minutes of play resulted in the 1-1 draw. DSU moved to 2-7-1 on the season.
MC got the scoring started early in the 4
th minute of play when Lindy Robichaux found Molly Ambrose to give the Majors the 1-0 lead.
It took some time for Delta State to get on the board, but
Maggie Amos, a freshman defender, scored the equalizer on an unassisted tally at the 21:42 mark, her first goal of the season and her career. The score remained deadlocked at one all going into intermission.
Second half play proved to be a tough defensive matchup as neither squad was able to tack on another goal, forcing extra time.
Two overtimes kept scoring at a stalemate for the Green-and-White to earn the 1-1 tie. DSU took the advantage in shots and shots on goal, owning a 25-16 advantage in shots with 11 being on frame. The Lady Statesmen tied their season-high 25 shots in the contest, their second game in a row logging as many shots.
Rebecca Deegan and
Erin Tucker had season high nights, recording five shots each to lead DSU.
Lakyn Cryder was close behind with four.
Katie Swaine earned the tie in goal, facing five shots and grabbing four saves.
Delta State returns home for a weekend of Gulf South Conference play, taking on Christian Brothers on Friday, Oct. 10 and Union two days later. Both kickoffs are scheduled for 1:30 p.m.
