MEET RESULTS: Statesmen / Lady StatesmenSPRINGFIELD, Mo. - In a match-up versus the defending national champions for both the men's and women's swimming programs, Delta State was defeated by Drury to complete a road-trip to Missouri. The Statesmen lost 170-73, while the Lady Statesmen fell 150-88 despite three race victories from
Melanie Tombers.
Vlad ZincaVlad Zinca won the 100-Butterfly (50.04) while teaming with
Yvan Nys,
Matteo Fraschi, and
Fabrice Wendel to finish second in the 200-Medley Relay (1:34.54) to open the meet.
Matthew Swaine scored 284.25 in the 3M diving competition to place first, he was runner-up with 286.72 points from 1M.
Makis Jorgensen finished runner-up in the 1,000-Freestyle (9:51.68) and Fraschi ended up third in the 200-Individual Medley (1:55.79). Wendel took second place in the 100-Freestyle (46.90) to improve his time by over .25 second from yesterday (47.18) at Missouri S&T. Fraschi added a second place swim in the 100-Breaststroke (57.30).
Melanie TombersTombers scored her first victory in the 1,000-Freestyle (10:23.23) in the first individual race of the meet. She added victories in the 400-Individual Medley (4:28.14) and 500-Freestyle (5:05.65) to earn national B-cuts in each event.
The 200-Medley Relay team of
Anastasia Klyarovskaya,
Kirsten Stroven,
Danielle Dugas, and
Chloe Bennett (1:49.28) took second place with the first swim of the meet. Klyarovskaya scored second place finishes in the 200-Freestyle (1:55.03) and 100-Backstroke (57.75).
The Lady Statesmen added a few more runner up finishes with Dugas in the 100-Butterfly (1:00.26), Bennett in the 100-Freestyle (53.87), and Stroven in the 100-Breaststroke (1:07.31).
The Statesmen and Lady Statesmen return to action on Friday Nov. 14 in Arkadelphia, Ark., as they compete against Henderson State and Ouachita Baptist.
