MEMPHIS, Tennessee – Breanna Ridgell's double-double lead three Christian Brothers University (3-5, 1-2 GSC) players in double figures en route to a 61-40 Gulf South Conference win over Delta State University (3-4, 1-2 GSC) Thursday night at Canal Arena. Ridgell scored 17 points and collected a career and game-high 13 rebounds.
Christian Brothers used a 13-2 run to start the second half and stretch a seven-point halftime advantage into a 42-24 lead following a Taylor Pugh basket and a Rachel Lee free throw at the 14:50 mark.
The Lady Bucs would build its largest lead at 49-28 following an Erin Wilson basket and free throw with 10:51 left and managed to keep DSU at arms distance the rest of way.
Delta State started the second half 1-for-6 and finished the half 9-for-24 (36 percent) and 18-of-49 (36 percent) overall. DSU did not make a 3-pointer in seven attempts and was 4-for-11 from the free throw line.
CBU went 6-for-10 to start the second, finishing 24-of-52 overall (46 percent).
The Lady Statesmen went the first 4:51 of the game without a basket coupled with a 7-2 run by CBU to start.
Anissa Jackson's layup with 15:51 cut the CBU lead to 4-2 before Emily Reeves connected on a 3-pointer to give CBU a 7-2 lead with 13:21 left.
CBU built a 19-8 lead, but the Lady Statesmen answered with an 8-2 run to cut the deficit to 21-16 on a
Mary Carol Davis basket with 4:40 left in the opening half.
A Ridgell jumper gave the Lady Bucs a 29-16 lead on the end of an 8-0 run with 1:44 left in the half.
