JACKSON, Tennessee -- Fresh off an upset of No. 20 Christian Brothers, the Delta State Men's Basketball carried the momentum (6-4, 3-1 GSC) to a 68-58 Gulf South Conference win over Union University (8-2, 2-2 GSC) Saturday at Fred Daley Gymnasium.
The Statesmen tightened up the defense in the second half, forcing Union to go 8-of-32 from the floor for 25 percent and 15 percent from 3-point range, making just 3-of-20 attempts. Union finished 19-of-64 for 29 percent and was 4-for-29 for 14 percent from beyond the arc overall.
Offensively, DSU made 11-of-32 shots for 48 percent in the second half and finished 22-of-52 for 42 percent overall. But the Statesmen biggest advantage came from the charity stripe, making 23-of-25 free throws for 92 percent.

The Green-and-White continued to stretch the lead by outscoring Union 23-11 over the next nine minutes with
Alister Chisholm scoring nine of his 19 points during the stretch. Chisholm's layup gave DSU a 54-45 edge at the 7:30 mark and his layup with 5:01 to go put DSU up 58-48.
Chisholm gave the Statesmen their largest lead of 68-51 with 1:59 to go before Union scored the final seven points of the game to equal the final margin.
The first half featured six ties and six lead changes in the early going before Corieon Pearson helped Union take a 21-15 lead with 6:19 to play.
P.J. Davis tied the game 25-25 with 1:18 remaining before another Pearson basket under the one-minute mark helped Union take a 27-25 halftime lead.
Chisholm lead DSU with 19 points and had seven rebounds followed by
Devin Schmidt's 14 points and nine rebounds.
Zelvin Smith finished with nine points and seven rebounds while Davis had eight points.
Declan Harrick had five rebounds and four points.
Marterrace Brock scored 19 points to pace Union offensive effort followed by Pedro Faller with 10 points. Ashanti Day had a game-high 11 rebounds and chipped in nine points.
Delta State begins a two-game home stand against Valdosta State University on Thursday at 7:30 p.m. at Walter Sillers Coliseum and will host the University of West Florida Saturday at 4 p.m.
