CLEVELAND, Mississippi – Delta State University and Geo Surfaces, Inc., of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, walked through the final inspection on Monday, July 28 concluding an eye opening turf renovation to Parker Field-McCool Stadium.

"Through the efforts of head coach Todd Cooley and the DSU Foundation in securing private donors to help fund the project and with the partnership of the great City of Cleveland, we were able to make this a reality," Mayers said. "

Delta State is the fifth school in the Gulf South Conference to make the switch to a synthetic playing surface and the first collegiate client for Geo-Surfaces, Inc., in Mississippi. The project features Geo-Surfaces' latest synthetic surface with six-foot wide sidewalks surrounding Parker Field. A 45' x 90' synthetic field for pregame stretching and practice is also a part of the design.

"This is a game changer for our program and the entire athletic department," coach Cooley said. "The new field will be an asset to all our programs and it will also give us the ability to host additional events that traditional grass does not allow."

A feature that fans will not see is Mississippi's first patented GeoFlo shock pad and drainage system. The system is design to help curtail injuries sustained from contact with the field while helping to assist drainage. The system will be the same one used by the National Football League's Pro Bowl, NFL Challenge Field and Louisiana State University's football practice field.

The turf project is the second major project to be completed for DSU Athletics. Cooley and his staff put in many man-hours on a locker room enhancement that saw wood lockers installed along with a player lounge area.  The staff sanded, stained, installed and added combination locks to replace the old metal lockers in the football locker room.

A new picnic area located in the north end zone, new visitors side concession stand and restrooms, new men's and women's soccer locker rooms and renovated concession stand projects are moving towards completion as well.
